Birds of a feather flock together on the Tahoe Rim Trail with our favorite local naturalists, Will and Clark, of Tahoe Institute for Natural Science during their annual Birds, Burgers and Brews event on August 1, 2015.

Sign up for three different birding tours around Lake Tahoe and Truckee and enjoy local craft brews and burgers as we all converge at 64 Acres in Tahoe City (next to the Transit Center) in the afternoon. The BBQ starts at 3pm and ends at 6pm. BBQ tickets can be purchased in advance or at the BBQ, but advance purchases help us to plan how many people to expect. Bring a mug for beer and a water bottle for the “Tahoe Tap” water station we will have on site to help us minimize the waste from the BBQ.

Choose from one of our three *free* birding tours:

Adult tours will be led by volunteers who will shepperd the caravans through an itenerary of excellent birding locations. Adult tours depart at 8 am and end around 3 pm at 64 Acres.

1) South Lake Tahoe caravan up the West Shore: Led by Don Harriman

Meet at Raley’s parking lot at the South Lake Tahoe “Y”  Probable stops include looking for Lewis’ Woodpecker and burn edge birds at the South Lake Tahoe High School, Fallen Leaf Lake, the Bald Eagle nest at Emerald Bay, and Blackwood Canyon area

2) Martis Valley, Brockway Summit, and Tahoe City: Led by Scott Dietrich

Meet at parking area next to the winter gate along Martis Dam Road (visible from 267)   Probable stops include Martis Creek Reservoir, Martis Peak or Mount Watson roads, and Lake Forest Beach

Family/Kid tour 1pm-3pm led by Sarah Hockensmith, TINS staff

3) 64 Acres in Tahoe City

Caravanning: adult tours will be moving up the west (and possibly east) shore of Lake Tahoe and also from Truckee checking out great birding locations. We highly encourage carpooling to make getting into and parking at birding locations easier. Those coming from the North Shore/ Truckee area are encouraged to leave their cars at 64 Acres on the way down to South Lake, as we will all converge there for the BBQ.
