Benjamin AllenJust when you think life has handed you enough hardship, Benjamin Allen humbles you with a most personal journey of extreme loss and heart wrenching grief. Over a 13 year period, Allen’s wife and two children – one an infant – died. So intense was his journey, that he was featured on Oprah, The Today Show, The New York Times, 20/20, and the Dallas Morning Post.

For years Allen struggled and finally found a way back to a life of meaning and fulfillment on a path he believes is paved with love and hope. He has now completed his book, Out of the Ashes: Healing in The AfterLoss – a roadmap from grief to fulfillment and meaning. The book details his experiences with overcoming isolation, shock, deep sorrow, and going the distance as a legacy to the family he once had. The book is purposely written to bring hope, transformation, and grace to people coping with any type of loss or major life change so they can know that peace and comfort are possible again.

“You don’t have to feel alone. You don’t have to feel like you’re wandering through the wilderness by yourself”, says Allen. “This book chronicles that journey for me, but it’s a universal journey. We all go through this kind of pain, this kind of hurt and we can come out on the other side with an expansiveness and renewed purpose and meaning”.

The book is a life line for those who have suffered any type of loss; loss of a relationship, a job, a dream or a lifestyle. It’s a message that Allen and his supporters believe needs to get out there. He is now using Funderway, a website similar to Crowd Source to raise the funds to self-publish his book.

Allen is a grief recovery specialist and counselor with 21 years’ experience helping hundreds move through their grief. His wife, Rachel Flower, is a business coach and mentor, and they both use their careers to donate a percentage of their incomes to Sustainable Tahoe.
