Skate the Lake 2007 Raises $5,000 for Breast Cancer

skate1.jpgInspired, and frustrated, by their mothers’ battle with breast cancer, two North Shore locals had to do something.

Combing their love of skateboarding and their families, Skate the Lake was born.

A 26 mile longboard skateboard relay along the North Shore bike path to increase breast cancer awareness.

Raised $5,000 for Boarding for Breast Cancer

Skating down the bike path at Tahoma up to Tahoe City, out to Squaw Valley, out to Lake Forest and back to Tahoe City, skaters from all over came out in the fresh snow to raise over $5,000 for B4BC.The days activities included the skate, live music, and education provided by B4BC’s educational booth.

The story behind Skate the Lake.

Skate the Lake was created in 2005 by two North Lake Tahoe friends, Chuck Vogt and Curt Sterner. Both Chuck and Curt’s mom’s were battling battle breast cancer and they wanted to do something to voice their frustrations. They combined their passion for longboarding and music and created Skate the Lake to honor their mothers and help raise breast cancer awareness in Lake Tahoe.

The tragedy has helped to unite a mother and son, nurture a local cause and the meaning of love and relationships. Read Chuck and Curt’s story here.
