The holidays and the spirit of giving are all about Giving Tuesday, a day that focuses on philanthropy and altruism. The Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe is launching its first Giving Tuesday campaign this year, to raise $10,000 in one day through local animal lovers.
On December 1, every dollar people give will have twice the impact to care for little underdogs like Mr. Sprinkles shown here.
Weighing less than five pounds, Pickle was found abandoned in the middle of nowhere. Very fragile, suffering from an upper respiratory disease and a severe case of mange, she was brought to HSTT. “We have the resources necessary to care for little underdogs like Pickle,” said Stephanie Nistler, executive director of the HSTT.
Outfitted with state-of-the-art medical equipment in their in-house treatment room and new facility, along with the help of foster homes for special cases, Pickle was nursed back to health.
Pickle was selected to be the face of their first ever Giving Tuesday campaign, which raised over $50k in one day last year thanks to all the social sharing by our friends! The 2015 goal is to raise $40,000 on December 1st, Giving Tuesday. The most exciting part of the day is that they have a $26,000 matching gift from one of our generous supporters that will match each dollar donated with TWO dollars on that day!
The overall theme of our campaign is based on Fozzy, an adorable little old dog we suspect to be around fifteen years old. Fozzy was found as a stray in Reno and was facing euthanasia due to space & budget constraints and the simple fact that older dogs are thought to be less adoptable. Again, Big Hearts Saving Little Lives sums up the feeling we’re trying to convey.
“Every dollar people give will have twice the life-saving impact,” Nistler said. Visit the Humane Society Facebook page.
