Dear Editor,
This is a letter of special thanks to all those who helped make the 14th Annual fundraiser “In The Mood” held December 3, 2009 a heartfelt success.
First and foremost thanks must go to my event partner Hank deVre and his wife Meg whose hard work and dedication continues to be Homeric.
Resort at Squaw Creek General Manager Richard McLennan generously donated the banquet room. RSC Special Events coordinator Lisa Walker and her staff went out of their way in providing a great set up. Derek Chibroski and his Swank Audio Visuals company donated time and effort into making our presentation sparkle. Dylan deVre provided the soundtrack. Tahoetopia’s Eric T. and RSN’s Todd O did a great job as MCs for the evening. Truckee Community Christmas Inc volunteer Purple Pattie took care of the huge amount of donated non-perishable goods and food drive.
Hank and I would also like to thank the main sponsors: Squaw Valley USA, Snowbomb, Tahoe Dave’s, Swayback , and Kevin Quinn and Points North Heli-Ski. Sugar Bowl and Diamond Peak donated season passes as raffle prizes and Porter’s tossed in a pair of K2 skis and bindings. Two dozen local photographers and videographers donated their imagery to comprise a unique and mind blowing show. Over one hundred North Shore businesses donated raffle prizes. Over 600 locals of all ages showed up and helped raise a healthy chunk of change for the Tahoe Forest Cancer Center.
But the real heroes of the evening weren’t our sponsors or artists or all the volunteers. The real heroes were the nurses and personnel of the Tahoe Forest Cancer Center on hand to sell raffle tickets and enjoy the festivities.
Led by Medical Director Laurence Heifetz, MD, the Tahoe Forest Cancer Center, located in Truckee, is committed to providing the highest quality cancer treatment and care to patients. The center strives to offer the most appropriate and current cancer diagnostic and therapeutic modalities in an honest, supportive and respectful manner. The Center is associated with the UC Davis Health System and the Tahoe Forest Hospital Foundation charitable organization.
But their efforts go past the norm. Every day these professionals step knee deep into smelly funk, battling a terrifying disease and helping prolong and save many lives, not just with modern medicine, but with compassion, kindness, love and friendship.
On a personal note I’ve been battling Stage 4 Cancer for more than one year. Although I was originally given only a few months to live, with the help of the Tahoe Forest Cancer Center I continue to battle this horrible disease. I owe my life as a direct result of the Cancer Center’s treatment, my personal resolve and my community’s support.
I personally want to once again thank all friends for making “In The Mood” a viable, fun and important event. Happy Holidays to all. And see you next year.
Cordially,
Robet “Fro” Frohlich
Founder and producer of “In The Mood”
