Markleeville Creek Cleanup Day August 23

Posted on August 4, 2014

The Alpine Watershed Group is holding its annual Markleeville Creek Cleanup Day on Saturday, August 23, 2014 from 10am to 2pm.

The fun starts at the Alpine County Library, where you’ll learn about the watershed and restoration activities.

The Alpine Watershed Group’s volunteer monitoring program is important for providing data that can be used to examine changes over time to water quality, habitat, and general watershed conditions. The data allows us to accurately measure the success or failure of various land use practices in protecting the quality of our waters.

This South Lake Tahoe event is free and all ages are welcome. For more information about this event, please contact theĀ Alpine Watershed Group at 530-694-2327.

Program Objectives

* Enrich the understanding of Alpine County residents to issues affecting water quality and habitat conditions within the watersheds.

* Identify potential water quality and habitat concerns

* Provide useful data for decision makers and the public

Chemical and Physical Conditions

The Alpine Watershed Group currently monitors eight sites within the Upper Carson River Watershed. If you would like to help the group expand its efforts to monitor more sites on the Carson River and other watersheds within the county, please contact Sarah Green at

The Alpine Watershed Group has a very limited operating budget that is often dependent upon a patchwork of unreliable grant opportunities and individual contributions. Your donation will assist the Alpine Watershed Group in such efforts as the continuation of our volunteer monitoring program, hosting annual Alpine Creek Days throughout Alpine County, conducting stream bank and wetland restorations, and hosting a variety of workshops to educate the community about opportunities to improve the natural systems functioning of our watersheds.

The Alpine Watershed Group is a 501(c)3 organization. Your donation is tax exempt.
