To help locals and visitors experience Lake Tahoe’s cultural heritage, wildlife and geology with minimal intrusion on the environment, a new education-transportation center has been built.
Explore Tahoe: An Urban Trailhead emphasizes the importance of protecting Lake Tahoe’s natural resources by using the Internet to plan excursions and choosing mass transit while in the basin.
Located on the bottom floor of the Heavenly Village Transit Center, Explore Tahoe showcases a wealth of natural history, recreation and transportation information, along with environmental educational programs geared for all ages.
A large plasma screen television displaying continuous clips about the Lake Tahoe Basin, and a kid’s table with a wildlife guessing game are a few of the many features. To encourage learning and imagination, there are also several interactive exhibits and informal interpretive talks especially for children.
Whether you’re a local or visitor, the center is definitely worth a visit. You’ll be surprised what you learn.
