Tahoe Culture Wild and Scenic Film FestivalJoin the Sierra Nevada Alliance on March 27, 2014 when they host award winning environmental and adventure films with the energy of local activism.

The Wild & Scenic Film Festival has been inspiring attendees to take action regarding issues that impact our environment, ourselves and our world.   The festival starts at 7pm at MontBleu in South Lake Tahoe.

The Wild & Scenic Film Festival is a collection of films from the annual festival held every January in Nevada City, California.  The South Lake Tahoe event is a benefit for the Sierra Nevada Alliance, and backed by Patagonia and the South Lake Tahoe Earth Day Committee.

“Films featured at Wild & Scenic give people a sense of place,” says Truckee local, Susie Sutphin. “In our busy lives, it’s easy to get disconnected from our role in the global ecosystem. When we realize that the change we need in this world begins with us, we can start making a difference.”

This year, the film festival will feature local filmmaker, Mike Wier, and two of his newest films: Swing North and Southern California Steelhead: Against All Odds.

Filmmaker Mike Wier will be at the Film Fest doing a Q&A session! Click here to learn more.

The Wild & Scenic Film Festival was started by the watershed advocacy group, the South Yuba River Citizens League (SYRCL) in 2003. The festival’s namesake is in celebration of SYRCL’s landmark victory to receive “Wild & Scenic” status for 39 miles of the South Yuba River in 1999. The 3-day event features over 100 award-winning films and welcomes over 80 guest speakers, celebrities, and activists who bring a human face to the environmental movement. The home festival kicks-off the national tour to over 100 communities nationwide allowing SYRCL to share its success as an environmental group with other organizations. It builds a network of grassroots organizations that are connected by a common goal of using film to inspire activism.
