Sierra Recon Mud Obstacle Races July 14

The Tahoe Tri Club will host its first mud obstacle race at Sierra-at-Tahoe on Saturday, July 14, 2012. The spectator-friendly course starts at an elevation of 6,800 feet and offers multiple distance options for all ages.

The race course has been built by a sadistic crew of licensed contractors designed to test your strength and fortitude. Three levels of competition will be offered for adults, and two for kids too.

Adult races include a Green Route that is four miles long, a Blue Route that is seven miles long and a Black Route that is 11 miles long. Challenging obstacles along the way will include ropes, ice baths, nets, wall climbs, beams, and the ever-popular slip ‘n slide. Sierra Recon is scheduled for the early part of summer, so it can serve as the perfect training race for other mud obstacle races throughout the summer season.

Families are also invited to participate in the Kiddie Recon, where children ages 7-14 years old tackle a one mile course with six-eight obstacles or children ages 6 years old and under conquer a half mile course with four-six obstacles.

The location of the event makes it perfect for spectators to watch the carnage unfold in the beautiful setting of Sierra-at-Tahoe, where racers start and end on the Broadway trail. Live music by Lavish Green, and food and beverages on the Tiki Deck will complement the entertainment creating a day of mountain fun for viewers.

The Awards Ceremony will be hosted in Opal Lounge at Mont Bleu at 5 p.m. where winners will be crowned, and participants can view photos and videos from the race. Beginning at 9 p.m., Opal Lounge transforms into a habitat for everything wild with music, dancing, GO GO dancers, drink specials and more.
