Joshua Morse and Dan Green, of Saturn Rising and Kingsuh Midtown respectively, came up with the idea for a benefit event after Morse spent a week watching the news of the after-effects of the earthquake.
“I wanted to go down to Haiti and move rocks around and do anything I could do to help,” Morse said. “I found out that was basically impossible and started thinking we should do a local benefit in town.” The benefit is set for 4 p.m. Feb. 6 at the American Legion Hall.
The event will bring together live music from local bands and artists, provide free food from local restaurants, and offer thousands of dollars in donated raffle prizes from other local businesses.
Complimentary food will be available from 4 to 8 p.m., and Morse encourages local business owners and professionals to take advantage of that time to meet new people and network. From 8 p.m. to midnight (or later), the bands will take the stage.
Local musicians slated for the event include Roland Haas, Mark and Grace Wilson, Skif’s Project, MC Census, Kingsuh Midtown, Hot Business, Saturn Rising, Green himself and more.
The event will also feature a raffle for prizes donated by local businesses, including movie rentals, gift certificates, hotel stays, bar tabs, lift tickets, a full snowboard set-up and more.
Donors include Grand Central Pizza, Mo’s Place, Blue Dogs Pizza, Tahoe Hemp, The Village, Tony’s Pizzeria, Shoreline of Tahoe, Mad About Music, Keys Cafe, Alpen Sierra, Burt’s Cafe, Burger Lounge, Heads up and the Tahoe Derby Dames.
Morse and Green are still looking for local businesses and people who would like to participate. For information call (530) 545-2399 or e-mail jpmsierrasnow@hotmail.com or gjamgreen@gmail.com.
