The Truckee Bike Festival and Team LUNA Chix 40-mile group ride on May 14th will mark the town’s bike culture and celebrate the AMGEN Tour of California that will ride through Truckee on Monday, May 16th, leaving Squaw Valley USA at 10:30am.
The Tahoe LUNA Chix road ride will depart from Donner Memorial State Park at 9am before the bike festival that takes place from 1pm to 5pm.
Tahoe Luna Chix Pre-Tour Group Ride: 9am
To kick off the Truckee Bike Festival join the Tahoe LUNA Chix for a Pre-Tour Group Ride along a portion of the AMGEN course. Join the Tahoe LUNA Chix at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 14 as they take off from Donner Memorial State Park, ride along beautiful Donner Lake, up the steep and winding Donner Pass, and continue on Old Highway 40 to Cisco Grove. The entire road ride distance is approximately 40 miles and a great way to get the legs in shape for the summer. For riders not interested in going the entire distance we are planning to have an early turnaround at around the 10 mile mark near Soda Springs. This is a free group ride open to all levels.
The Tahoe LUNA Chix is a women’s road cycling and mountain biking team sponsored by LUNA Bar whose mission is to empower women through outdoor activity while raising money for the Breast Cancer Fund.
Truckee Bike Festival: 1pm to 5pm
Following the Team LUNA Chix group ride, head to Historic Downtown Truckee where you’ll find a Kids Rodeo and Bike Skills event, DJ, interactive metal bike sculpture by Pat Blide, slow races, longest skid competition, bike themed art show at Riverside Studios, and a bike decorating contest at Artisans Marketplace at Brickelltown for 1st, 2nd and third place.
