The theme of this year’s Trails & Vistas Art Hikes, “Finding Beauty”, will inspire attendees along a guided path past live music, art, storytelling, and dance performances.
The two hikes, on September 12 & 19, 2015 will each feature ten installations spread along an approximately three mile route. Local and regional artists have been commissioned to create original works for the hikes, incorporating the scenery and natural environment of their particular location along the path. On September 12, 2015, the Art Hike will take place along an aspen lined trail at Spooner Lake in the Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park, and will feature a trio from the Grammy winning Pacific Mambo Orchestra. Also featured will be Tahoe local musician Peter Joseph Burtt with his African harp and troubador voice, as well as Scarlet Rivera with her celtic violin, and sculptor/performance artist Angelique Benicio.
On September 19, 2015, the Art Hike will begin at Donner Ski Ranch and will follow a path with views overlooking Donner Lake and the mountains beyond. Highlights of this hike include aerial dance by Tahoe Flow Arts, live music by the Yosemite Quartet, John Muir storyteller Garth Gilchrist, and Motoshi Kosako on harp.
Tickets for either hike are $35 (age 11+) and $12 (age 411) through July 1. Advance sellouts are expected for both hikes. Art Hikes are recommended for physically healthy adults and children who are able to hike at altitude. Go to www.TrailsandVistas.org to purchase tickets.
On September 12, 2015, the World Concert, now in its third year as part of the Trails & Vistas festival, will feature the big band horns, percussion, piano, and vocals of 2014 Grammy winning Pacific Mambo Orchestra. The final performance of Lake Tahoe Shakespeare’s Encore Series will have you dancing under the stars in the breathtaking Sand Harbor Amphitheatre as PMO brings contemporary vitality to the tradition of the 1950’s mambo craze. One of the best Latin big band orchestras in the world, PMO performs in four languages. Opening the World Concert will be celtic violinist Scarlet Rivera, Peter Joseph Burtt with his soulful blues, a Taiko drum performance, local bagpiper Sean Cummings, jazz harpist Motoshi Kosako, and Ian Ethan on a double necked guitar. There will also be a painting performance by Susie Alexander, who will create several works inspired by the evening’s music. It will be an evening of music from around the world, set on one of the world’s most beautiful stages.
Tickets for the World Concert start at $23 and are available from www.TrailsandVistas.org or the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare box office 800.747.4697.
The Trails & Vistas Art Hikes and World Concert are chested this year by Community Partners of Lake Tahoe Nevada State Parks, Donner Ski Ranch, and Shakespeare Festival of Lake Tahoe.
