Lake of the Sky Garden Club’s 23rd annual Lake Tahoe Garden Tour benefiting local garden projects will take place in the historic town of Truckee on Saturday, July 30, 2011 from 10am to 4pm.

Eight gardens will be on the tour including a stunning perennial lakefront garden on Donner Lake (pictured here) and a Victorian garden in the historic downtown area. Light refreshments will be served at one of the gardens. Tickets sell out quickly, and may not be available at the gate on the day of the tour.

Lake of the Sky Garden Club’s goals are to promote an interest in gardening, with particular emphasis on the problems at high altitude, to support charitable, educational, and scientific works, as well as to initiate and participate in beautification and developmental gardening projects in the North Tahoe region.

Proceeds from this tour will fund scholarships to encourage study in landscaping, horticulture, forestry or environmental science and up to $6,000 in grants to local community garden projects.

The club has donated tens of thousands of dollars in the past to recipients including Thunderbird Lodge, Tahoe City Historical Society, Watson Cabin, Gatekeeper’s Museum, Ehrman Mansion – Pine Lodge, Hospice, UC Davis Tahoe City Fish Hatchery (Eriksson Education Center), Girl Scouts, Project MANA, Penny Pines as well as local colleges, Community Gardens and libraries.

Lake of the Sky Garden Club is a nonprofit organization with 76 members. Sharon Gay is President and Historian of the Club. The club is a member of National Garden Clubs, Inc., Pacific Region, and California Garden Clubs, Inc., Golden Foothills District.
