North Tahoe Events
This October, Lake Tahoe Dance Collective presents Claudia Schreier & Company, bringing Schreier’s talents and a team of professional dancers to the shores of Lake Tahoe.
Claudia Schreier & Company will perform Friday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 15 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the Tahoe Art Haus in Tahoe City.
Hailed as an “up-and-coming” choreographer by The New York Times, Schreier is “making waves” as “audiences are drawn to the way she infuses a neoclassical base with contemporary vocabulary and a driving musicality,” says Dance Magazine. With her “exquisite,” “complex, compelling, and absolutely stunning” works (Harvard Crimson), Schreier “inverts ballet norms” (Columbia Spectator) with a distinctive choreographic voice that fuses neoclassical technique with an inventive contemporary vocabulary.
Schreier is collaborating with six dancers from Los Angeles Ballet for the October performances in Lake Tahoe. Among the works to be featured are Schreier’s ballets Elysium, Vigil, Anomie, and Traces, all of which were choreographed over the last decade.
“I am thrilled to be invited by Lake Tahoe Dance Collective to bring Claudia Schreier & Company on its first official tour,” said Schreier. “My dancers and I are excited to present a program of ballets that signify milestones in our journey to this point.”
Schreier has been commissioned by organizations including the Vail International Dance Festival, Ballet Academy East, The Ailey School and Columbia Ballet Collaborative and has been named the recipient of the second annual Virginia B. Toulmin Fellowship for Women Choreographers at the Center for Ballet and the Arts at NYU. Schreier has also served as choreographic assistant to Damian Woetzel for the premiere of SPACES by Wynton Marsalis at Jazz at Lincoln Center and the 2016 White House Turnaround Arts Program Talent Show.
In 2015, Schreier brought together some of today’s most celebrated professional dancers, composers and musicians as ‘Claudia Schreier & Company’ in New York City for a full-evening performance of her work featuring dancers from New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, and Dance Theatre of Harlem. This fall’s performance in Lake Tahoe marks the second time Schreier has assembled a group of elite dancers to perform under her name.
“Claudia is creating clean, elegant works that reinvigorate ballet,” said Christin Hanna, founding artistic director of the Lake Tahoe Dance Collective. “I could not be more delighted to present her work in Tahoe.”
