LUNAFEST has a legacy of featuring notable and up-and-coming women filmmakers. Girls on the Run – Sierra has a legacy of nurturing preteen girls in Lake Tahoe and Truckee.
In 2013 Squaw Valley will host the LUNAFest Film, Food, and Wine on Saturday March 9 as part of the North Lake Tahoe SnowFest.
Enjoy the award-winning film festival, sample cuisine from local chefs and tastings from California wineries – while supporting local and national charities benefiting girls and women. LUNAFest is the signature fundraiser for Girls on the Run – Sierras, a local youth development program that inspires girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident and the Tahoe Luna Chix women’s cycling team who fundraise for the Breast Cancer Fund.
The fourth annual Squaw Valley LUNAFest event will feature wine from Plumpjack Winery, Clif Family Winery, Domaine Chandon, Domain Saint Michelle, Vincent Arroyo, and Truckee River Winery. Participating restaurants include Garwoods, Mamasake, Rocker, Season’d Catering, Fireside Pizza, Soupa and Squaw Valley Catering. Live music provided by the Angele and Wildwood Band. Attendees will have a chance to bid on silent auction items including Disneyland tickets, Snowcat Skiing with Pacific Crest Snowcats, Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows Gold season pass, restaurant certificates, and spa packages.
About the films
LUNAFest was established in 2000 by LUNA, makers of the whole nutrition bar for women, to simultaneously promote women filmmakers, raise awareness for women’s issues and support worthy women’s nonprofit organizations. The short films will compel discussion, make you laugh, tug at your heartstrings and motivate you to make a difference in your community. Award-winning films include Flawed, an animated short that won the NYC Short Film Festival Audience Choice Award and Self-Portrait with Cows Going Home and Other Works, Winner of the Seattle International Film Festival Best Short Documentary. Athletes will enjoy Chalk, a coming of age story of a young gymnast, and Georgena Terry, a woman who revolutionized the women’s biking industry.
