Dave NettleClimbing isn’t just an activity for Dave. It defines who he is.

On November 16, at 7pm local hero Dave Nettle will kick off the Alpenglow Sports Winter Film Series at Squaw Valley’s world-famous Olympic Village Lodge with his show “Double Trouble: A World Traveler’s Quest for the Vertical World.”

Crowd-favorite Nettle will highlight journeys to Patagonia, Morocco, and the Swiss Alps through a series of spectacular images and humorous narrative, complete with a sampling of alpine climbs from each destination. Other speakers in the series include elite high-altitude mountaineer Adrian Ballinger, adventure and surf photographer Chris Burkard, big mountain skier/climber Hilaree O’Neill and “the Bonatti of the Rockies,” alpinist Barry Blanchard.

The Winter Film Series is an eagerly anticipated 12-year-old tradition for North Lake Tahoe’s skiing, climbing, and adventure community. The Series, which has grown into the premier speaker series in North America, is designed to inspire, motivate, and educate the North Lake Tahoe mountain community. According to event coordinator and owner of Alpenglow Sports Brendan Madigan, “The Winter Film Series represents a unique opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate a shared passion of mountain adventure. It’s an event that perpetuates the connectivity of our mountain tribe while raising vital funds for local non-profits making a tangible difference in our community.”

Each show is free and raffle prizes from industry sponsors are used to raise money for local non-profits including: the Tahoe Backcountry Alliance, Sierra Avalanche Center, Tahoe Nordic Search and Rescue, the Tahoe Food Hub, the Humane Society of Truckee Tahoe and Squaw Dogs. Each show regularly raises $6-8,000 for local non-profits through an outstanding raffle. Most importantly, attendees are exposed to the vital community initiatives of the hand-chosen partner non-profits.

After the series kick-off with Dave Nettle, the 2017/18 Winter Film Series continues with world-class
professional adventurers Adrian Ballinger (December 7th), Chris Burkard (January 4th), Hilaree O’Neil (February 8th), and Barry Blanchard (February 22nd). This must-see lineup brings stories of adventure and daring guaranteed to inspire and amaze.

Since it’s inception, the Winter Film Series has raised well over $120,000 for various non-profit groups within the Lake Tahoe region. While each show is free, Alpenglow Sports uses product donated by the sponsors of each presenter in order to sell raffle tickets. 100% of proceeds are given to the associated non-profit to utilize in their community endeavors.
