Join Eric Brandt and other locals to honor our very own guitar legend Blake Beeman on Saturday, August 2nd.
Brandt, close friend for over 30 years and The Beer Gardens band member, shares this sweet memory of Blake.
Blake Beeman, a close friend and true ambassador of good will and good times to the entire North Lake Tahoe community for over 30 years, left our realm on June 4, 2014, after a battle with cancer. His absence is and will be felt for a long time to come by the thousands whose lives and spirit he impacted over the years.
Born in Germany, Blake was a beloved part of North Tahoe’s music community, not only playing in a number of local bands, but mentoring generations of musicians, and providing sound engineering and reinforcement for musicians in venues including the Crystal Bay Club, Concerts at Commons Beach, and Squaw Valley’s Bluesdays.
A simple person, Blake was focused on two main things — music, and the people and friends around him. He gave of himself to help close friends and strangers alike, ultimately building a community in itself, as shown at the January 2014 benefit event on his behalf. He was truly a friend and respected individual to all, from some of the biggest names in music to the neighbor down the street.
I am fortunate to have shared the stage and many, many good times in our intentionally un-serious band, The Beer Gardeners. The camaraderie and strange synchronicity we shared on stage was truly one of a kind.
To those that knew Blake, join me and rejoice in having shared in his spirit and life. It will live on in all of us, as I know he would like.
I imagine he’s now on the biggest stage with every musical hero he admired, in front of a sold-out crowd, playing a ripping guitar solo that can go on as long as he wants.
A celebration of Blake’s life will be held in the Crown Room of North Tahoe’s Crystal Bay Club on August 2.
