Kids and Teen Art at Nevada Museum of Art

School is almost out – what is a parent to do? Send the kids to the Museum of course!

The Nevada Museum of Art offers a wide array of Kids Art Camps, Teen Open Studios, Art Classes, events and programs that kids of all ages will enjoy.

Following is a selection of the Summer Art Courses for kids and teens.

CLAY TURDS FOR TODDLERS with Megan Berner

Saturdays, July 10 – 31 /9:30–10:15 am

Explore the interesting textures and forms that can be created in clay with your toddler. Works will be sculpted, glazed and fired during this fascinating development opportunity. Price includes one parent and one child.

$27 / $24 Museum members ($12 for each additional parent/child) / 1 – 3 with parent

DRAWING FOR TWEENS: ANIMALS with Caitlin Christianson

Saturdays, July 10 – 31 / 10 – 11:30 am

Tweens who love animals will learn how to draw horses, dogs, cats, and other animals of their choice. Using pencil and colored pencils, students will learn how to draw what they see and gain a fundamental understanding of form, shape, contour, and line. Ages 10 – 14

KIDS’ CLAY CLUB with Megan Berner

Saturdays, July 10 – 31 / 10:30 – 11:30 am

Kids will learn hand-building techniques while discovering the fun and tactile properties of clay as they sculpt animals, coil pots, and more. After finishing the pieces with colorful glazes, works will be fired in the kiln, creating ceramic sculptures to be enjoyed for years. Ages 8 – 10 (age flexible)

KINDER CAMP: ANIMAL WORLD with Annie Hooker

Monday – Friday, July 26 – 30 / 9 am – 1 pm

Boys and girls will explore the exciting animal kingdom through painting, drawing, sculpture, clay, printmaking and mixed media projects. Create artwork to take home of your favorite creatures and explore the galleries of the Museum. (Lunch – no nuts). Ages 6 – 8

$180 / $160 Museum members

SUMMER ART CAMP: SCULPTURE & CLAY with Megan Berner

Monday – Friday, July 19 – 23 / 9 am – 1 pm

Kids who like to build with their hands will love this camp where they will create their own sculptures using clay and a variety of other materials. Children will learn to hand build using clay that is then glazed and fired in the kiln and will tour the exhibits at the Museum. (Lunch – no nuts). Ages 8 – 12 (age flexible)

$180 / $160 Members

SUMMER ART CAMP: EGYPTIAN ADVENTURE with Annie Hooker

Monday – Friday, August 9 – 13 / 9 am – 1 pm

Campers will make art inspired by the wonders of ancient Egypt. Kids will explore mysterious mummies, pyramids, crocodiles, hidden treasure, cobras, and pharaohs and queens. Kids will tour the galleries as well as explore clay, painting, drawing, and printmaking. (Lunch – no nuts). Ages 8 – 12 (age flexible).

SUMMER ART CAMP: DINOSAURS with Jeanne Jo

Monday – Friday, July 12 – 16 / 9 am – 1 pm

Boys and girls will make drawings, paintings, prints, and sculptures inspired by their favorite dinosaurs and prehistoric Earth. Make a volcano out of clay that erupts! This educational experience will allow campers to create their own works of art, explore different media, and tour the galleries of the Museum. (Lunch – no nuts). Ages 8 – 12 (age flexible)

SUMMER ART CAMP: PRINTMAKING & CLAY with Megan Berner

Monday – Friday, August 16 – 20 / 9 am – 1 pm

Let your kids have fun with printmaking and clay using a variety of materials and methods. Children will tour the exhibits in the Museum and build ceramic works that are then glazed and fired in the kiln. By the end of camp, your kids will take home their own unique art creations. (Lunch – no nuts). Ages 8 – 12 (age flexible).

TEEN ART/DIGITAL STUDIO with Jeanne Jo

Monday – Friday, August 2 – 6 / 9 am – 1 pm

In this week long studio, teens will work on a variety of projects that incorporate digital tools into traditional art media. Students will create their own works of art in sculpture, drawing, printmaking, and installation and be introduced to the creative use of digital tools and the work of contemporary artists who use digital media. A digital still camera with video capabilities is required. (Lunch – no nuts). Ages 12 and up

$180 / $160 Members

TODDLER ART ADVENTURE: RECYCLING FUN! with Jennifer Ishimatsu

Fridays, September 10 – 24 / 9:30 – 10:15 am

Inspired by Chester Arnold’s On Earth as It is in Heaven, parent and tot will create art projects that utilize recycled materials. Have fun making a sculpture, painting, and collage. Ages 1 – 3 with parent

$24 / $22 Museum members ($11 for each additional parent/child)

The E.L. Cord Museum School of the Nevada Museum of Art is accepting enrollment for the below classes. Classes are limited in size, therefore early registration is recommended. Scholarships are available for all ages. Please call the Museum for details at 775.329.3333 ex 260.
