Enjoy music, art, and nature with Krissi and Gina as you learn about hiking safety and etiquette “On the Trail” at Explore Tahoe: An Urban Trailhead in South Lake Tahoe on August 14 starting at 2pm.
Admission is free.
Local author Krissi Russell and local artist Gina Stowell will set the mood for the educational and fun event with a sing-along and face painting.
Krissi Russell will present an interactive nature and music program based upon her new book and CD set, On The Trail. Vibrant, full color illustrations by Lois Olsen add magic to Krissi’s message: “Stay on the trail, enjoy the view. Leave only footprints. That’s what you’re supposed to do.” Immediately following the program, Krissi will hold a book signing of On The Trail. Copies will be available for purchase.
On The Trail is the follow-up book and CD to In the Meadow (Don’t Feed Our Bears) Krissi’s first children’s sing-along book that harmonizes a true to life tale of living in the mountains close to nature alongside wild animals in order to teach kids of all ages about bears, coyotes and geese in their natural habitat.
Gina Stowell’s exotic face paintings are known to transform kids into the design be it feline, beast or butterfly, and help connect children to nature by getting into character.
Gina has been teaching art to children in the Lake Tahoe area for 12 years. In 2004, she incorporated a nonprofit arts organization and implemented the fine arts program in all five elementary schools in our community with the help of 130 parent volunteers. She has organized and taught fine arts classes for the Valhalla Arts, Music and Theater Festival at the Tallac Historic Site, Lake Tahoe Community College “Kids College”, L.T. Middle School After School Enrichment, and Visions in Education Charter School.
The event starts at 2pm on the Patio at Explore Tahoe: An Urban Trailhead located in the Heavenly Village at the Stateline Transit Center 4114 Lake Tahoe Blvd. Admission FREE! Face painting costs $3 to $10 depending on design. For more information please call Explore Tahoe at 530.542.4637 or email lthomaselli@cityofslt.us
