Stone Soup Feeds Body and Soul: Sundays at Old Rec Center

I’m sitting alongside a friend and fellow rumbling belly at a folding table in the gym of the old Rec Center on Jan. 24, a Sunday night. In front of me is a placemat decorated by a local elementary student, and a vase with tissue paper flowers in a rainbow of colors made by the Girl Scouts. I’m facing the main entrance, watching people cross the threshold.

Chili Feed supports CASA March 4

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and the Coyote Grill at the Roundhill Square in South Lake Tahoe are teaming up to raise money for the CASA children in the community on March 4 with an all-you-can-eat chili feed for only $1.

The event will be held from 5pm to 10pm.

On January 29, 2010 Mt. Rose made a $5,000 donation to the Haiti Earthquake Response Fund to aid the victims of the Haiti earthquake. The rounded amount donated represents $10 per Mt. Rose employee on the 09/10 payroll.

Squeeze In raises Donations for Haiti January 25-January 29

Over the next week 10% of all dining profits from both locations of the Squeeze In will go toward disaster relief efforts in Haiti. Every transaction from Monday, Jan 25, through Friday, Jan 29, 2010 will be counted toward a donation to the Salvation Army in support of the organization’s Haitian relief efforts. read more →

Hard Rock Cafe Lake Tahoe Raises $10K in Fight Against Hunger

During the months of November and December 2009, Hard Rock Cafe Lake Tahoe raised over $10,000 to help to feed children worldwide. Funds were raised through the sale of IMAGINE THERE’S NO HUNGER charity bracelets, adorned with John Lennon’s self portrait image, which were sold in the Café for a donation of $1 or more, with 100% of the bracelet proceeds going to WHY.  read more →

Sierra Nevada College Students Return from Habitat for Humanity Trip to El Salvador

El Salvador Sierra Nevada College studentsAssistant Business Professor Emily Rhodenbaugh, Senior Lecturer Laura Brunel-Canale, and ten Sierra Nevada College students recently returned from a trip to El Salvador help build a house with Habitat for Humanity. According to Habitat for Humanity Country Director Patty Cordero, “The leadership of the [SNC] group was exemplary, and the group members did an excellent job working toward their objectives.”

Help Casey Raise $ for Missionary Trip to Ghana

Casey De La CruzCasey DeLaCruz, South Lake Tahoe High School senior, is on a mission.

For her Senior Project, she hopes to fulfill her dream and passion to serve others in need, specifically in Ghana working with Heaven Sent Ministries this December.  Depending on their exact needs, Casey will help build a pastor school or work in orphanages.

However, Casey needs $3,500 to participate in the mission trip and is currently seeking sponsorships through November 30, 2009.

That’s why he stood up and paddled the circumference of Lake Tahoe to raise awareness for animals on factory farms and much needed funds for Farm Sanctuary, the nation’s leading farm animal protection organization.
