Unforgettable Storytellers and Supper Stroll April 28
Tickets are running out for a unique fundraising progressive dinner and local storytellers’ night scheduled for Saturday, April 28 along Ski Run Boulevard. The event will take dinner guests on a historic dinner stroll through Tahoe’s distant and modern past and down Ski Run Boulevard for a different pairing of food, wine and story at each stop.

Free Guided Snowshoe Treks
The Tahoe Rim Trail Association is offering free guided snowshoe treks along the famous trail that winds 165 miles peak to peak around Lake Tahoe. From ice falls on the new Van Sickle State Park trail, to a full moon hike on Mount Rose, it’s no wonder everyone loves this trail.
On March 3rd join fellow hikers for a strenuous, eight mile trek to Martis Peak, located above Kings Beach on the North Shore.
13th Annual Snowshoe Thompson Cross Country, Ski, Snowshoe Tour March 3
From 1856 to 1876 Snowshoe Thompson made 90 mile ski treks over snowdrifts up to 50 feet high through blizzards with 80 mph winds, to deliver mail between California and Nevada over the Sierra Nevada.

Full Moon Ski Tour at Hope Valley March 4
Cross country ski by the light of the full moon on March 4, 2012 starting at the solar-powered Hope Valley Outdoor Center at Pickett’s Junction.
Meet at the Yurt at 6pm well-fed since you’ll be touring around on moonlit snow for two hours. You are more than welcome to bring a thermos of your favorite hot drink. Tours cost $20 per person.

Longboards to Olympics: A Century of Tahoe Winter Sports at Explore Tahoe March 14
Join local historian, Mark McLaughlin, for a lecture about how winter sports took Northern California by storm and captured the imagination of a nation at Explore Tahoe on March 14th from 6pm to 7pm.
This lively lecture will begin with the early exploits of our famous skiing mailman, Snowshoe Thompson, then continue through the 1930s which was a breakout decade for Skisports when thousands attended ski jumps in Berkeley and San Francisco, and conclude with the 1960 Winter Olympics at Squaw Valley, the seminal event that launched Lake Tahoe into the international spotlight for world-class winter sports. read more →
Fresh Powder Skiing, Yoga and Music at Kirkwood March 16-18
Three unprecedented days of backcountry and freeride instruction, yoga and DJ’s makes its debut at Kirkwood, March 16 – 18 with fresh powder. Produced by Tough Guy Productions, a Tahoe-based ski film and event production company, the Freeride Flow Festival powered by CLIF Bar and Marmot. The three-day event brings together novice and recreational winter athletes with professional sports athletes, backcountry experts and top industry vendors for clinics, demonstrations, electronic DJs, performances and a whole lot of après ski.
Women’s Conscious Dance Retreat March 16-18
The Mountain Gypsy, Ann Thennes, will hold a three day Women’s Conscious Dance Retreat, March 16, 17 and 18, 2012 to tap into the light from the spring equinox through movement, dance and meditation.
The retreat will be a time to connect and open our hearts to the reason we dance in the first place. You will also be working on creating your own sacred dance practice.

MANDING JATA – West African Drumming and Dance March 23
Tahoe Arts Project continues its 25th season with members of the international touring company Manding Jata on Friday, March 23 at the MontBleu Theater at 7pm.
Opening the show will be our very own Liz Broscoe. With a professional drumming career spanning over thirty years, Broscoe’s diverse rhythmic adventures began at the early age of ten. Since 2000, Liz has taught West African Djembe & Dununs, Afro-Cuban conga and drum set classes throughout Tahoe.
Green Fire: Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic for Our Time March 28 at LTCC
“Green Fire: Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic for Our Time”, will debut at the Lake Tahoe Community College Duke Theater on March 28th at 7 p.m. The film shares highlights from Leopold’s life and extraordinary career, explaining how he shaped conservation in the twentieth century and still inspires people today.
Although probably best known as the author of the conservation classic A Sand County Almanac, Leopold is also renowned for his work as an educator, philosopher, forester, ecologist, and wilderness advocate. Admission is free, compliments of the our LTBMU Forest Service friends. read more →
Ryan Shreve Memorial Ski Race at Sierra-at-Tahoe March 29
In memory of Ryan Shreve, a South Tahoe fire fighter, Sierra-at-Tahoe hosts an annual race for South Tahoe Fire Fighters. Proceeds from the annual race are used to produce flyers that educate people about Second Impact Syndrome. The flyers have been placed on all ALS equipment in El Dorado County and the Sierra-at-Tahoe first aid clinic. The Ryan Shreve Memorial Ski Race takes place March 29th starting at 10am and is open to all fire fighters, paramedics and their families.

Tahoe Beneath the Surface by Scott Lankford Feb 15 at Explore Tahoe
Lake Tahoe transformed America many times over–from the earliest Ice Age civilizations to the mysterious death of Marilyn Monroe. It even played a hidden role in the American conquest of California, the launch of the Republican Party, and the birth of John Steinbeck’s first novel. Along the way, Lake Tahoe found the time to invent the ski industry, spark the sexual revolution, and win countless Academy Awards.

Geology of Tahoe with Scott Valentine at Explore Tahoe Feb 29
Scott Valentine, Earth science instructor at Lake Tahoe Community College, will talk about “Geology of the Tahoe Basin” a story of earthquakes, glaciers, volcanism and how Lake Tahoe was created on Feb. 29 from 6-7pm at Explore Tahoe.
National Winter Trails Day at Van Sickle January 7
As part of National Winter Trails Day, the Tahoe Rim Trail Association will host free guided hikes on January 7th from 10am to 2pm through the newly opened Van Sickle State Park right behind Harrah’s Casino.
There will also be outdoor gear demonstrations, raffle prizes, and a Warming Party at Explore Tahoe after the hikes. While the snowshoes won’t work, you can still lace up your hiking boots for some great treks with Heavenly views, and the water fall with ice sculptures that look like angel wings.
Culture in Coloma with American River Conservancy
From medicine wheels to winter bird walks, wild mushrooms, and the ancient craft of soap stone carving, the American River Conservancy (ARC) has orchestrated a delectable ensemble of interactive events to teach us all about our local mountain culture. All of the events are taught by locals who are experts in their field, and want to share it with you.

In Search of Powder by Jeremy Evans at LTCC January 25
An avid mountaineer and snowboarder, Jeremy grew up skiing in Arizona where, sadly, he wore jeans on the slopes. He switched to snowboarding, and real ski gear, after moving to Lake Tahoe. In Search of Powder by South Lake Tahoe writer Jeremy Evans, follows his eight-year newspaper career as a sports writer.
Jeremy will hold a reading at the Lake Tahoe Community College on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 8pm. Author Scott Lankfort will join him and will read from his book “Tahoe Beneath the Surface” too. It’s free!
Dianna Borges as Sarah Winnemucca Jan 25 at Explore Tahoe
She was a person of two worlds. Sarah Winnemucca Hopkins 1844-1891 was a Northern Paiute Native American known across the county for her warm, witty and insightful lectures on human rights. She was also an interpreter and guide for the US Army; and Author of the book:” Life Among the Paiutes, their Wrongs & Claims.” (1883) Making her the first Native American to write a book in the English Language.
Join local performer Dianna Maria de Borges as she speaks a tale of bravery and courage during her classic impersonation of this remarkable Native American woman at Explore Tahoe on January 25, 2012 from 6pm to 7pm.
Tahoe Arts Project presents the Gizmo Guys Jan 27 at MontBleu Theater
Tahoe Arts Project continues its 25th season with the comedy/juggler duo The Gizmo Guys on Friday, January 27th at the MontBleu Theater at 7:00 PM. The Gizmo Guys’ rapid-fire act exhilarates and inspires sidesplitting laughter in audience members of all ages. The Gizmo Guys will bring their “Objects in Motion” show into the South Shore schools January 23-27 teaching children how juggling relates to science and math.

To help raise money for their favorite local non-profit, dogs are headed to Alpine Animal Hospital for its 21st Annual Holiday Nail Trim benefit for Christmas Cheer, taking place December 1st through 31, 2011.
All of the proceeds from the nail trims will go to Christmas Cheer. Dogs rule!

Gong in the Holidays at the Meyers Tree Lighting Event Dec 9
(((Gong))) The Planet in Meyers during its first annual Tree Lighting on Friday Dec. 9 at 5:30 p.m. in the Divided Sky/Downtown Café parking lot.

Viking Road is soon to become the way to “42nd Street” with the first student performance to take the stage at the new Viking Theatre at South Tahoe High School’s Tahoe Arts and Design Academy.
For those who want to experience the big bold musical production of 42nd Street, the curtain rises at 7 p.m. on December 16, 2011. Matinee performances will be held at 2 p.m., Dec. 18.

Muralist John Holland at Tahoe Art League Meeting Nov 9
The most unique mural he ever painted was the inside of a 10,000-gallon water tank to look like an old mine shaft. The tank was converted into a wine tasting room.
To your left is the mural he painted inside Mama’s Red Tomato Restaurant at the Timbercove Lodge, across from Sierra Ski and Cycle Works in South Lake Tahoe.
