Hwy 50 Wagon Train rolls through South Lake Tahoe June 2-3
Talk about keeping it real. The 63rd annual Highway 50 Wagon Train rides through South Lake Tahoe Saturday and Sunday, June 2 and 3, 2012.
Sunday they’re riding from Zephyr Cove, Nevada to Amacker Ranch in Meyers (a South Lake Tahoe hamlet), California.

2012 Lake Tahoe Summerfest Attracts World Renowned Musicians August 3
A series of classical concerts and performances, fine arts and cultural events will complement Lake Tahoe’s spectacular natural setting with the inaugural Lake Tahoe SummerFest running Aug. 3-5; Aug, 10-12 and Aug. 17-19.
Themed Fridays include “All About Beethoven” and “Summer in Italy;” while family concerts are featured on Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. To introduce and encourage interest in the arts with children, select rehearsals will be open on a complimentary basis.
Tahoe Derby Dames 2012 Season
Blending athleticism, finesse, thrills and spills, Tahoe Roller Derby has taken hold in South Lake Tahoe.

Pony Express Re-Ride through South Lake Tahoe June 13-23
The Re-Ride of the Pony Express Trail from St. Joseph, Missouri, to Sacramento, California, will pass through South Lake Tahoe in front of Harrah’s at Friday’s Station to exchange the Mochila on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at 11:30am.

Tahoe Improv Players at Valhalla July 3
The audience calls out suggestions. A group of actors who enjoy walking a theatrical tight rope, improvise a scene on the spot.
The audience laughs and then the actors do it again, and the audience laughs again…you get the picture. And so it will go during a night of improvisation theater with Tahoe Improv Players at the Tallac Historic Site on July 3 at 7:30pm.
Solid Air at Valhalla July 11
Solid Air is a music group led by Allegra Broughton and Sam Page, both native Californians who have been performing together for twenty years at fairs, festivals, clubs, concert stages and coffeehouses.

Wa She Shu It Deh Native American Arts Festival July 28-29
The Washoe are the original inhabitants of Da ow aga (Lake Tahoe) and all the lands surrounding it. Tahoe is a mispronunciation of Da ow, meaning “lake.” Washoe ancestral territory consists of a nuclear area with Lake Tahoe at its heart, and a peripheral area that was frequently shared with neighboring tribes.
The Washoe will re-unite at the Tallac Historic Site in South Lake Tahoe on July 28 and 29, 2012 to honor their culture and heritage during their annual Wa She Shu It’ Deh Native American Arts Festival. read more →

Banff Mountain Film Festival April 2
For the past 26 years, 16 expeditions have tried and failed to climb one of Pakistan’s 8,000 meter peaks in winter. Then on February 2, 2011, Simone Moro, Denis Urubko and Cory Richards became the first. Cory is now the only American to summit any 8,000 meter peak in winter. The journey nearly killed them. Cory carried a small camera and filmed the ordeal constantly.

Freeskiing World Tour at Kirkwood April 4-8

Poetry Bomb to Hit Tahoe in April during National Poetry Month
Bona Fide Books will dispatch the Tahoe poetry posse to “bomb” the town with words that will make you laugh, make you cry, and soothe your weary soul sometime in April.
Kim Wyatt, publisher of Bona Fide Books in Meyers, organizes the event every April as part of National Poetry Month. “When times are hard, poetry can give people hope,” Kim says. “We’re hoping that people receive the exact poem they need to read at that moment.”

Tahoe Rim Tour April 7

Even if you snowshoe you can enter the Tahoe Rim Tour on April 7, 2012, a point to point 26 kilometer race from North Tahoe High School in Tahoe City to the Cross Country Center at Northstar at Tahoe. This is a fundraiser for the Far West Nordic Ski Education Association’s Junior Ski Programs.
Moonlight Snowshoe Tour at Northstar April 7

Fifth Annual Beacon and Eggs Search Contest April 8
Meet Walter and Clancy, the newest patrol dogs at the fifth annual Beacon and Eggs beacon search contest at Alpine Meadows.
The combination Easter egg hunt and avalanche beacon search practice session is organized by Alpine’s ski patrol and takes place on Easter Sunday, April 8th.

Sugar Pine Foundation Fundraiser April 19
Did you know… historically, the majestic Sugar Pines accounted for 25% of Tahoe’s mixed-conifer forests. Today, this glorious tree makes up less than 5% of our forest composition due to a non-native invasive fungus. But they’re coming back, thanks to the Sugar Pine Foundation.
Llearn how you can help bring back the Sugar Pine at the fundraiser at the Eagles Nest Lounge at the top of Kingsbury Grade on April 19th from 6pm to 10pm. This family fun event will feature a chili cook off, music, a raffle, and activities for the kids. Every day of the week, Evelyn Brenner creates colorful, inspirational art like no other. Combining fabrics, paint, clay, buttons, beads and pearls, her work grabs you at a glance and pulls you into the details. And, at ninety-four she’s still going strong as an active artist.
Moved by the magnificent array of fabrics, ceramic dolls and wall art in Evelyn’s home, Truckee resident Elissa Slanger, an artist in her own right, produced a heartwarming and inspiring thirty-minute film, “Evelyn,” that will be featured at Women, Art and the Creative Process at Cedar House Sport Hotel event center from 7 to 9 p.m. on April 22. read more →
