Saddle Time: The Many Forms of Bicycling in North Lake Tahoe
Visitors to North Lake Tahoe during the AMGEN Tour of California will have fun spotting bicycle art created by local artists throughout the region, and a few bike relics at Watson Cabin. The artists have transformed bicycles–altering them any way they see fit, the more “outside the box” the better — into art pieces. Most, but not all, pieces are for sale.

Running the Numbers with Chris Jordan at NMOA April 23-July 17
Starting April 23rd, the Nevada Museum of Art presents the first comprehensive presentation of works by internationally-known photographer Chris Jordan who presents statistics that are too big for the mind to grasp and makes them shockingly beautiful for the eye to behold: 2 million plastic bottles used every five minutes, 426,000 cell phones retired every day, 2.3 million prison uniforms representing the number of Americans incarcerated annually. By fusing image and information into epic photographs, he asks us to consider our role as global citizens and our impacts on the planet.
“Remembering Madeline” Art Show at NTA starts May 4
“Remembering Madeline” will exhibit in the Corison Loft at the North Tahoe Art Center in Tahoe City from May 4th through June 1st.
The NTA membership show is a tribute to a wonderful artist, mentor, and teacher – Madeline Bohanon. Madeline founded Sierra Artists Network twenty three years ago, which became, North Tahoe ARTS and an artists group called Art Vision.
Composer Jean-Paul Perrotte’s Electronic Score in Dialogue with Villareal April 28
Jean-Paul Perrotte has been commissioned to create an electronic musical composition that both acoustically and electronically interacts with three of Leo Villareal’s light sculptures: Big Bang, Amanecer, and Diamond Sea. The event is the second in a series of three programs designed to interpret Villareal’s work and will take place Thursday, April 28th 2011 from 6:00pm – 8:00pm at the Nevada Museum of Art.

Trails and Vistas organizers are holding a contest to create the theme for the 2011 art hike that will take place at Spooner Lake on Saturday, September 17, and Sunday, September 18, 2011.
The contest to create this year’s theme is open to all ages. The deadline is April 15, 2011.

Sierra College, Tahoe-Truckee’s student art club, More Creative, announces the third annual Student Art Show, May 6 to May 13, 2011.
The juried show is open to students who are currently enrolled as well as anyone who has completed a Sierra College class in the last five years. Entries will be accepted in multiple categories including drawing, painting, design, digital art, photography, and ceramics.

Churnhill Glass on Display at North Tahoe Arts in Tahoe City
Inside her mountain studio on the west shore of Lake Tahoe, Laura Churn Hill is obsessed with glass.
Using the lampwork method, Laura melts rods of colored glass in the flame of a torch to create her one-of-a-kind intricate glass masterpieces, including her Tahoe landscape ornaments and beads.
Laura’s glass work known as Churnhill Glass is currently on display at North Tahoe Arts in Tahoe City through the fall.
John James Audubon and The Birds of America at NMOA Nov 6 thru Feb 13, 2011
An explorer, naturalist, and writer, John James Audubon was one of the most important artists of the nineteenth century.
The exhibition Explorer, Naturalist, Artist: John James Audubon and The Birds of America at the Nevada Museum of Art, November 6, 2010 – February 13, 2011, features fifty of Audubon’s most dramatic and life-sized watercolor depictions from the first-edition printing of The New York Historical Society Edition.
Antonia Lowden’s “Sticks and Stones” Exhibit at Sierra Nevada College
“Sticks and Stones” by accomplished tapestry and weaving artist Antonia Lowden is on exhibit at the Tahoe Gallery, located on the third floor of Sierra Nevada Colleg’s Prim Library, through October 15, 2010. An opening reception will be held October 7.
Artwork by Pat Edwards on Display at North Tahoe Event Center Oct 5
Lake Tahoe people and landscapes are just a few of the colorful pieces by long-time local artist Pat Edwards featured at the North Tahoe Event Center October 5th through January 4, 2011.
Meet Pat at an opening reception Tuesday, October 5th from 5:30 – 7:3pm at the center in Kings Beach. Pat’s exhibit is a visual array of her impressions of Lake Tahoe captured in a mix of pastels, acrylics, photos and mixed media.
“A New Decade of Clay: 2010” at Northstar Sept 18 – Oct 16
Sierra Nevada College, together with Clay Times magazine and Northstar-at-Tahoe, will host a national juried ceramics show beginning September 18th in the Village at Northstar continuing through October 16th, 2010.
The exhibit “A New Decade of Clay: 2010” will feature ceramic pieces from artists across the country to be juried by internationally renowned ceramist Richard Shaw. A kickoff celebration and opening will take place on September 18th, with events from 1pm-5pm to include ceramic demonstrations, a kids’ clay table, and “pottery Olympics.” A reception will be held afterwards, beginning at 6pm.
Voodoo Inspired Art by Carole Sesko at Elijah Bleu’s Sept 23 Reception
An opening reception for local artist Carole Sesko is slated for Thursday, September 23rd from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Elijah Bleu’s House of Coffee & Good Eats in Truckee.
The Truckee artist said this collection of work was influenced by the coffee shop’s colorful, Cajun atmosphere.
Raising Monet for the ARTS “Take Six” starts Sept 3
It’s a giant art sale to raise money for the Arts in North Lake Tahoe taking place through the end of September, or until the donated artwork is sold out.
“Raising Monet” kicks off Friday, September 3, with an opening reception from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the North Tahoe Art Center in Tahoe City.
North Tahoe Plein Air Sept 8-12
And the winners are…the anticipation is building.
Thirty two artists have been selected for North Tahoe Plein Air 2010 which will be held at the Village at Northstar September 8-12, 2010. Six of the selected artists are from Lake Tahoe.
From Emerald Bay to Sand Harbor, nationally recognized plein air artists from California, Nevada and Colorado will paint on location throughout North Lake Tahoe for three days to capture the many moods of the Sierra’s fall light as it dances along the landscape.

Sierra Nevada College Awards Art Scholarship to High School Grad
Laura Woodman, a recent McQueen High School graduate, has been awarded an annual art scholarship from Sierra Nevada College in the amount of $12,500 (totaling $50,000 over a four-year period), announced SNC Chair of Fine Arts Sheri Leigh O’Connor. Woodman, who graduated from McQueen High School this spring, will enter SNC in fall 2010 as a Fine Arts major with a concentration in Photography.

Nance Leikhim Rivers and Falls at North Tahoe Event Center through May 2010
The “Rivers and Falls” exhibit by local artist, Nance Leikhim, is on display at the North Tahoe Event Center in Kings Beach through May 2010.
The impressive exhibit includes a large 98” wide painting “The River” which Leikhim created as an analogy to life. Smaller watercolor and mixed media pieces dot the exhibit landscape with a unifying theme of water and leaves falling.

While traveling the often deserted roads of Nevada, photographer Erik Lauritzen was captivated by the evidence of human presence affecting the Western landscape. “Stop the Car, Dad!” a series of photographs by artist Lauritzen will be on display through May 21st, 2010, at Sierra Nevada College, Prim Library, main floor.

Gee’s Bend Quilts at Nevada Museum of Art through April 11
Hailed in The New York Times as “some of the most miraculous works of modern art America has produced” the quilts of Gee’s Bend will be on exhibit at the Nevada Museum of Art through April 11, 2010.
Quilting has been a longstanding tradition among the women of Gee’s Bend – a small town on Alabama River where cotton plantation owner Joseph Gee’s land was located.
Regional Artists Lead Horse HeART Art Competition in Incline Village
Regional artists won seven out of nine awards at Horse HeART, an equine themed art exhibit, art competition, and fundraiser to benefit wild horses now on display at Art Attack Gallery in Incline Village, Nevada.
The exhibit will run through April 12, 2010.
Nevada Museum of Art CA+E offering Artists | Writers | Environments Grant
Teams of visual artists and writers who are U.S. citizens working on art + environment projects from July 2010 through August 2011 will be eligible to apply for the first Artists | Writers | Environments (A | W | E) Grant provided by the Nevada Museum of Art CA+E. The Game of Life by Carole Sesko at Trio Wine Bar and Bistro in Truckee
The timeless elegance of a Truckee landmark is further accentuated with the whimsical and enchanting paintings of local mixed media artist, Carole Sesko.
But it’s much more than art. It’s a beautiful reflection of Carole’s personal ties to the close knit community of Truckee where she has lived for over two decades.
