June Towill Brown to Unveil Gentle Giants July 24-25

For the past 15 years, June Towill Brown of Incline Village has created an eclectic repertoire of art to honor and preserve the character and beauty of Native American cultures, horse breeds and Shakespearean characters.

As an artist and educator, Brown continues to study the structures of humans and wild life to enrich the lives of others through the stories the sculptures tell. Brown will introduce a new equine art series on July 24th in South Lake Tahoe.

Hand of Order sculpture at Ski Run Marina

Yes, that is the Statue of Liberty in the middle of South Lake Tahoe at Ski Run Marina.

Carson City artist, Matthew Welter, has brought his 30-foot “Hand of Order” wooden sculpture, a tribute to Lady Liberty, to South Lake Tahoe to mark our freedom.

Keep Tahoe Culture stickers Support the Arts

Arts and Culture Council of Truckee TahoeBetween January and April 2010, $150 was raised through the sale of Keep Tahoe Culture stickers.

The collected  proceeds were split evenly between the two local non-profit beneficiaries: Arts & Culture Council of Truckee Tahoe (ACCTT) and the Tahoe Arts Project (TAP).

Watercolorist Kate Aubrey at Tahoe Art League meeting June 9

Kate Aubrey has been a devoted watercolorist for the last 33 years and has recently expanded into multimedia works, including combinations of watercolor with gouache, pen and ink and/or pastels. Having lived in Colorado, Alaska and northern Nevada she especially enjoys working out in nature creating plein air landscape paintings.

Rolinda Stotts Painting Demonstration at Marcus Ashley Gallery June 18-19

To introduce its popular summer series of featured artists, Colorado artist Rolinda Stotts will paint live at Marcus Ashley Gallery at the Village Center in South Lake Tahoe on Saturday, June 19, from 1-5pm.

Rolinda will give a rare demonstration of her unique painting technique, Bella Rotta, which means “Beautiful Broken” in Italian.

“Fire” Photographic Essay by Peter Goin at LTCC Haldan ARt Gallery thru June 18

From the Mogollon Rim in northern Arizona to Death Valley caves, throughout the forests of the Sierra and in Black Rock country, from sagebrush valleys in Colorado to wildlife preserves in agricultural California, fire is an omnipresent element of life.

Fire, a photographic essay by Peter Goin, will be on display at the Haldan Art Gallery at the Lake Tahoe Community College through June 18, 2010.

St. Mary’s Art Center featured at TAL meeting May 12

During World War II, it was stripped for metal salvage and abandoned until 1964, when the pastor of a nearby church proposed that it be renovated into an art center, rather than torn down.

Tahoe Arts and Mountain Culture (TAMC) is looking for an image for its annual collectible sticker #4.

To promote our local art community, each year TAMC produces a collectible sticker featuring artwork from a local artist that captures the essence of Lake Tahoe and represents our mountain culture.

Mackerel Sky by South Lake Tahoe artist Phyllis Shafer, shown here, was selected in 2009 as the third in the series of collectible stickers because of its lyrical interpretation of our communion with nature. read more →

Kahurangi Maori Dance April 30 MontBleu

The Kahurangi Maori Dance Theatre of New Zealand with their extraordinary vitality, passion, strength and athleticism has been thrilling audiences with their unique blend of Maori song, dance and heritage around the globe.

Kahurangi will be performing in the South Lake Tahoe schools April 26-30 as part of Tahoe Arts Project’s performing arts in the schools programs. A public performance will take place April 30 at MontBleu.  read more →

Nevada Museum of Art CA+E offering Artists | Writers | Environments Grant

Teams of visual artists and writers who are U.S. citizens working on art + environment projects from July 2010 through August 2011 will be eligible to apply for the first Artists | Writers | Environments (A | W | E) Grant provided by the Nevada Museum of Art CA+E. Letters of interest must be received via e-mail on or before Friday, April 16, 2010.

Local Artists’ Call of the WILD show at ArtSpace March 13-April 2 in Placerville

El Dorado Arts Council/ArtSpace presents “Call of the Wild” a show of original art inspired by The Big Read: WILD in El Dorado County and by Jack London’s book The Call of the Wild. The exhibit includes depictions of the wildlife and rugged beauty of El Dorado County as well as themes from the American classic novel. Impressionist Peter Darvas Painting Workshops at the TAL Art Center in March

The paintings of Endre Peter Darvas combine a wonderful versatility with brilliant expressiveness and flawless technical quality. His paintings deal with an ever changing variety of subjects depicted in a distinctive impressionistic style.

Darvas will hold two separate 4-day painting workshops in South Lake Tahoe at the Tahoe Art League (TAL) Art Center in March.

The oil acrylics workshop will be held Wednesday thru Saturday, March 17-20, from 9am to noon.

Yasmin Sayyed featured speaker at TAL meeting Feb 10

Yasmin Sayyed, local artist, poet, mother, grandmother and psyco-educational therapist, will speak at the Tahoe Art League monthly meeting on Wednesday, February 10, 2010. It’s free and the public is invited.

Yasmin was born in New York City, of Cape Verdean and Caribbean ancestry. She studied art, education, and psychology in New York, Rhode Island and California, earning advanced degrees.

Tahoe Tallac Association Receives US Bank Grant

US Bank Grant for Tahoe Tallac AssociationThe Tahoe Tallac Association recently received a wonderful Christmas gift in the form of a grant from US Bank. The grant was part of US Bancorp Foundation’s Community Relations Program. The Community Relations program supports the activities of 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organizations in US Bank’s 24-state banking region. The program awarded over $20 million in the past year.  read more →
