Two Artist’s Perspectives on Old Truckee by Sara Zimmerman and Scott Thompson

Fine artist Sara Zimmerman and fine art photographer Scott Thompson team up for an art show of images of downtown Truckee. The show, “Truckee Through My Eyes: Two Artist’s Perspectives on Old Truckee” will be on display at Elijah Bleu’s Coffeehouse in Truckee through March 2010.
“Truckee represents a different “something” to each person,” says artist Sara Zimmerman. “Whether it be the duality of old and new, a place to meet friends, a site of history, etc, Truckee represents something different to each person. That is what this show is about.”
The show will be on display in the front left section of Elijah Bleu’s from Jan 12, 2010 through mid-March and is open to the public.
Scott’s Artist Statement:
“The opportunity to exhibit with a painter, a different kind of artist, inspired me to come up with a whole new set of images. We decided our exhibit was to focus on Truckee so I wanted to photograph Truckee like it had never been done before, with a style to compliment the work of painter Sara Zimmerman. I wanted to paint with light. Using a technique I use a lot when shooting live band photography, long exposures mixed with flash and camera movement. The look of my photos are done with the camera, not Photoshop.
My hope is that you will find these photographs a fun and fresh look at Downtown Truckee, CA. And I hope you find this proof that good things happen when people with different views on a subject work together toward a common goal. Sara’s Artist Statement:
“Downtown Truckee has always been an inspiration to me as an historic place revitalized with a modern, tourist economy. And on a whole, Truckee represents a different “something” to each person, whether it be the duality of old and new, a place to meet friends, a site of history, etc. This idea inspired this show. Scott and I each see Truckee through different perspectives. I relay mine through textured artworks depicting abstracted cityscapes. I was inspired to use recycled materials in these works just like how these old buildings have essentially been recycled, being added and improved on, but not replaced.
