John and Sue are a husband and wife team who have ben married more than 40 years and lived in Truckee for more than 34 years. John is a woodworker with a specialty in fancy joinery used to create an assortment of jewelry boxes. He also creates functional salad bowls. Sue has quite a love for art plus sewing and combines the two by creating traditional quilts with nontraditional colors. Her creations consist of colorful artistic hanging quilts, small hanging quilts, baby quilts and purses.

Eva Stramer Nichols from Truckee

Paintings of landscapes, flowers, fruits, animals and nature

Creative Process:Originally I started painting with watercolors because I wanted to be able to paint little sketches as part of my travel journals when I started going on extended kayak trips around the world.  Since then I have completely fallen in love with this fluid and expressive medium – it’s always challenging, and I am constantly learning new methods of expressing different moods and motifs.  Color – nature – water – landscapes – flowers and birds inspire me.  I paint both plein air as well as in my studio – sometimes I makes up scenes from my imagination, other times I try to convey what I see and feel.”

Mike and Molly Bennett from South Lake Tahoe

Medium: Glass and sterling silver or 14 karat gold-filled wire

Art: Wire-wrapped kiln-fired jewelry

Creative Process: Molly began to specialize in dichroic glass and wire wrapping over 15 years ago. Her unique style creates a balance between wire and glass, showcasing the beauty of the fused piece. She starts with a piece of dichroic glass, then layers it with various colored glass (up to 8 layers in some pieces) to achieve the design she is seeking. Many of her pieces are adorned with Swarovski crystals. Finally, each piece is wire wrapped in sterling silver or 14 karat gold-filled wire creating gorgeous pieces.
