Sara Zimmerman “Fall to Winter” Exhibit at Dragonfly starts Dec 2

Truckee artist and designer, Sara Zimmerman, will commemorate her newest artworks at the opening of her “Fall to Winter” exhibit on December 16th from 4:30 to 6pm at Dragonfly Cuisine in Truckee.
“I love tropical colors and have been searching for a new way to express the beauty of the mountain landscape surrounding us. This exhibit shows the marriage of a tropical palette with the flora of our mountain environment,” says Sara.
These unique landscapes will be on display from December 2, 2010 through March 2011 and is open to the public.
The Artworks
Sara’s newest artworks in her “Fall to Winter” exhibit depict the late seasonal change in the Sierras from a unique perspective. “I wanted to challenge myself to see if I could create works with the environment I love using an entirely new and nontraditional palette of colors,” says Sara. “The creation of these pieces became a fun challenge with the final works blossoming into an exciting surprise.” 
Sara chose to replace dark greens and browns with a neo-fauvist expression of turquoise, bright oranges, and purples, such as the colors found in the South Pacific. The final works depict the familiar scenes we all come to love, such as the Donner Lake vista, but in a non-conventional blanket of golds, purples, and teals.
Many of these works are not only of local landscapes, but have local components used in their creation. Several of the works are painted directly on top of recycled cabinet doors from local cabinet shops. The texture in the layers is also recycled, composed of recycled tissue paper and local newspapers. “Using recycled components is enjoyable because it not only helps the environment, but also adds to the uniqueness of the works,” adds Sara. The works on cabinet doors already have finished edges, making the final artworks “framed” and ready to hang.
Opening Reception
“Fall to Winter” will be on display from December 2010 through March 2011 at Dragonfly Cuisine, upstairs at 10118 Donner Pass Road in Truckee, CA. An opening reception for the artist will be on Thursday, December 16th from 4:30 to 6 pm. This North Lake Tahoe event is open to the public and appetizers will be served. There will be a free drawing for a print from Sara Zimmerman.
