For the second consecutive year, the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) has granted Artown with $20,000 for the 2010 festival, one of only two grants awarded to Nevada-based organizations.
As the nation’s largest funder of the arts, NEA’s one-year Access to Artistic Excellence grant helps Artown to bring a diverse array of arts and culture to Reno, Nevada, through the entire month of July.
“Receiving the NEA grant for the second year in a row is such an honor and provides validation Artown is filling a need in the community,” Beth Macmillan, Artown executive director, said. “With the economy stretched thin, competition for grant funding is fierce and we are thrilled that the NEA recognizes Artown’s impact on the arts. This prestigious award allows Artown to keep growing and continue to fulfill its mission.”
Artown receives annual funding from the City of Reno and Nevada Arts Council in addition to a variety of sources including grants, sponsorships and member donations as well as in-kind support.
Plans for the 15th annual Artown, held July 1 – 31, 2010, are currently underway with festival favorites such as the Monday Night Music Series, Family Series, World Music Series, Movies in the Park, Artown After Dark music series and the Discover the Arts children’s series making its return.
