Local award-winning watercolor artist, Eva S. Nichols, will be exhibiting her newest paintings in her exhibit “Detour to Tahoe” at the main gallery of North Tahoe Arts March 13th to April 29th, 2013. Nichols was born in Denmark.
An impressionist colorist, Eva creates vibrant watercolors that reflect her many life-changing travel experiences. In her art, she experiments with format and colors, using a variety of techniques to apply the paint to paper. You can always recognize her bold use of colors in her paintings.
Over the last few years, Eva’s travels have allowed her to explore her art and her newest passion of teaching art. In 2009, she spent a few months traveling in Southeast Asia and Australia highlighted by teaching art to children in Borneo and taking workshops from Aboriginal artists in Australia, the world’s oldest continuous art tradition.
She also completed the over 1,000 year old Camino de Santiago Pilgrimage route from St. Jean Pied de Port in France to Santiago de Compostela in Spain. She has had several paintings and articles about her experience published in magazines in the US as well as in several European Countries. She recently spent five months as an Artist in Residence at the Art Center in Mendocino. She is currently teaching workshops and giving lectures regarding her travel experiences and paintings throughout the area.
Originally from Denmark, Eva resided on the Monterey Peninsula for over 20 years before joining the mountain lifestyle in Truckee. In her art she strives to convey a mood and feeling with her color choices, not necessarily to match what she sees, but what she feels. In addition to awards at a variety of Northern California Art shows, Eva’s art has been showcased in a variety of locations including River Gallery, Reno, NV; Mendocino Arts Center, Mendocino, CA; Europa Design, Monterey, CA; Le Beau Soleil Fine Arts Gallery, Pacific Grove, CA; Albergue San Miguel, Hospital del Orbigo, Spain; and Gallery at 417 Cannery Row, Monterey, CA.
Eva creates an environment where students feel free to experiment and explore their creativity. With her background as a language instructor it was only natural for Eva to move into art instruction and combine her passions for painting and teaching.
