Call to Artists for Horse HeART Art Exhibit, Competition, and Fundraiser

Visual artists are invited to submit images of original equine-theme art work for consideration for Horse HeART, a special event celebrating the spirit of horses and artists to be held this spring at Art Attack Gallery in Incline Village.

Horse HeART will include an art exhibit with an opening reception, art competition, and fundraiser to benefit the Let ‘Em Run foundation, a non-profit organization co-founded by country western singer Lacy J. Dalton that works to preserve wild mustangs.

“Horse HeART is a call for tenacity and a celebration of our muse, the Mustang,” explains Mark DeSautel, owner of Art Attack Gallery. Since their ancestors first escaped from 16th century Spanish conquistadors, the Mustang’s story has been one of adaptation and survival in harsh, unfamiliar terrain. Today, faced with a bleak new economic landscape, artists can feel inspired by the grace and toughness of these iconic animals. They, too, will need grit and inventiveness to survive the current recession.

In this spirit, Horse HeART seeks equine art that evokes qualities shared by mustangs and artists: resilience, inventiveness, power, beauty, wildness, freedom, and intelligence. Eligible categories include all forms of painting, photography, and sculpture. Deadline for applications is Tuesday, February 23, 2010. The exhibit will open with a wine and chocolate reception on Saturday, March 13 and will run through April 12, 2010.

    Hi,
I was wondering if the picture for the Horse HeART competition has to be a picture of a mustang?

    Thank you,
    Jacki Hogan

    Hi Jacki-
Just to clarify, the work must be equine but not necessarily of a mustang.
