Our favorite local mystery thriller author, Todd Borg, will teach a 3-day writing workshop “The Hook, the Twist, and the Cliffhanger” – What Works and What Doesn’t in Entertainment Fiction, November 16th – 18th at the Sacramento Fine Arts Center
This fun-yet-serious workshop is perfect for anyone who has written fiction and wants to refine and polish it until it sings.
The workshop is also great for any writer who is just beginning a serious foray into the world of telling stories that grab readers from the first sentence and never let them go until the last.
The Hook, the Twist, and the Cliffhanger workshop will delve into the intricacies of writing for the largest audience of readers: those who love fast-paced, entertaining, and moving stories. We’ll share the secrets that successful authors use to create tense, exciting stories. And we’ll go over the specific techniques for developing characters so real that readers will cheer for the good guys, hiss at the bad guys, and laugh and cry and worry their way through your story.
This 3-day workshop will focus on all of the components of entertaining fiction. In addition to character development and the rising plot curve, we’ll cover critical aspects of writing effective prose such as scene construction and point-of-view. We’ll also reveal how bestselling authors deal with the three parts of prose: action, dialogue, and (the dreaded!) exposition.
In addition to teaching attendees about crafting excitement and mastering the essentials, Todd will lead a positive, engaging group critique of your 5-page writing sample, and give you the ins and outs to getting published including how to market your novel so it won’t just sit on the shelf!
Todd Borg is a full-time novelist with substantial “awards-and-reviews” credentials and eight well-received novels that have garnered many rave reviews and made several bestseller lists. Borg taught as an adjunct faculty at the Lake Tahoe Community College in South Lake Tahoe for 15 years in the art department.
The workshop will be held at the Sacramento Fine Arts Center. Workshop hours are 10am – 5pm. The cost for “The Hook, the Twist, and the Cliffhanger” workshop is $275. In order to ensure the best-quality workshop experience, space is limited.
