On The Trail by Krissi Russell inspired by Washoe Meadows State Park

Krissi Russell of South Lake Tahoe has released her second read and sing-along book and CD set, On The Trail featuring hiking songs about trail etiquette and safety.

Vibrant, full color illustrations by Lois Olsen add magic to Krissi’s message: “Stay on the trail, enjoy the view. Leave only footprints. That’s what you’re supposed to do.”

On The Trail is the follow-up book and CD to In the Meadow (Don’t Feed Our Bears) Krissi’s first children’s sing-along book that harmonizes a true to life tale of living in the mountains close to nature alongside wild animals in order to teach kids of all ages about bears, coyotes and geese in their natural habitat.

As a teacher, singer/songwriter, author and nature lover who lives in South Lake Tahoe, Krissi was inspired to write On The Trail because of a special place she visits almost daily that brings her endless joy.  Washoe Meadows State Park.  Krissi wants to introduce children and their parents to the importance of trail etiquette and preservation practices to ensure this special open place remains pristine and accessible for generations to come.

In her own words:

I was inspired to write On The Trail while walking the trails of Washoe Meadows State Park, which was established in 1984 in order to protect an environmentally sensitive parcel of land. It is located near my home. Many of the illustrations in my new book are based on real photographs that I took within the park. When I was building the book, I sent Lois a recording of the song for inspiration, a layout of the book with the lyrics printed on each page, and several of my photographs. She took it from there and brought the story to life with her colorful paintings.

This photograph of the trail to the big meadow in Washoe Meadows State Park is one of my favorites.

This beautiful park is a place of inspiration for me.
