Having lived in Lake Tahoe for more than 50 years, she knows how to capture the many moods of Tahoe in her paintings and how to attract people to her gallery.
After graduating from the University of Nevada in Reno in 1985, Julie Whitney Wainscoat opened a gallery and art studio in Kings Beach to showcase her paintings, photography, and custom furniture.
The gallery is located inside a favorite North Shore bakery.
Julie’s art gallery is located inside the Brockway Bakery in Kings Beach which she owns with her husband John who came to Tahoe from San Francisco with his family in 1957.
Over the last several years, Julie has focused her paintings on boats, primarily wooden boats. “I love photography and use my images to create my paintings,” says Julie of her new series of boat paintings inspired by her summers with her family at their fishing resort in Huron, South Dakota, and summers spent at Lake Tahoe when her family relocated to the Tahoe area.
“Reflections, geometric lines, and vivid colors are the focus of most of my realism-styled paintings.” Julie
Her paintings, photography, murals, and customized furniture pieces are in private collections in over 60 different homes and public places in the United States, British Columbia, and Greenland. In addition to her paintings, Julie enjoys applying her painting to restored furniture.
To get a taste of John and Julie’s creativity, stop by the bakery for a delicious homemade pastry while you view Julie’s artwork. Her studio is open Wednesday-Sunday from 8am to 6pm in Kings Beach.
Doggies are always welcome too.
