Local Artists’ Call of the WILD show at ArtSpace March 13-April 2 in Placerville

El Dorado Arts Council/ArtSpace presents “Call of the Wild” a show of original art inspired by The Big Read: WILD in El Dorado County and by Jack London’s book The Call of the Wild. The exhibit includes depictions of the wildlife and rugged beauty of El Dorado County as well as themes from the American classic novel. Local artists from throughout the county are featured including novelist Todd Borg of South Lake Tahoe March 13 – April 2, 2010.

The art exhibit is one of many events and activities taking place during The Big Read : WILD in El Dorado County. In March, everyone is encouraged to pick up and read a copy of The Call of The Wild. The complete community calendar of events may be viewed at www.eldoradocountybigread.org

ArtSpace is an interactive place with an open door. Artists, musicians, actors, writers and art lovers of all ages are invited to come in.

An Open Door to ArtSpace March events:

Saturday, March 13, 2:00 to 4:00 pm – “Build a Better Bug Art Project for Kids”.

Gold fever has hit the Klondike! Have you caught the gold bug? Kids ages 6-12 learn to build their own three-dimensional bug. Learn from local artist Donna McPherson. All art supplies provided. Cost $10.

Saturday, March 20, 1:00 to 8:30 pm – Local Authors Showcase

South Lake Tahoe author Todd Borg, local children’s authors Erin Dealey and Joan Barsotti, and local artist/author Susan Keale will be at EDAC’s ArtSpace for readings and book signings.

Monday, March 29, 10:00 am to 12:00 pm – Call to Artists, Bricolage

Found objects and recycled materials art submissions accepted. Please contact EDAC at 530-295-3496 for submissions and membership information.

Friday, April 2, 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm – ARTISTIC BEING with Idris Ackamoor and Frederick Harris.

The performance repertoire will be original compositions of Ackamoor and Harris, with tap dance as well as the new age sounds of flutes, mbiras, bells, invented instruments, and other meditative and spiritual jazz sounds inspired and influence by Pharaoh Sanders, Alice Coltrane and John Coltrane. In addition the repertoire will include the compositions of jazz masters like John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker, and others.

Mellon Foundation and Theatre Communications Group, and individual donors.

El Dorado Arts Council advances cultural, educational and economic development by advocating and creating the highest quality art opportunities for residents and visitors.
